- Construct 2-page "main" resume to be utilized as a base from which customization should begin. Tailor resume as appropriate to best fit the job in which you are interested.
- If submitting blindly to a company, recruiter, or job portal, be sure to utilize keywords in your resume that match those found in job descriptions to which you are applying. This will maximize the likelihood of your resume surfacing during a database query.
- Prepare a 30-second "elevator pitch" identifying your differentiating value.
- Networking is the first step (business associates, friends, family, etc.).
- Submit resume to search firms. Phone calls are a long shot. If the search firm is working on a search consistent with your background, they will contact you.
- Submit resume to job boards and career portals.
- Identify companies you believe to be strong match and suitable employer.
- Identify who would be your boss in each company.
- Call him/her and present your elevator pitch.
